You have such a great eye for photography. I miss the burgh very much, its really nice to see your pictures. It makes you feel like you are walking in the strip, driving accross the bridges, sittin on Mt. Washington, and drivin the boat on the Mon. I live in West Palm Beach Florida where its to hot and dealing with the cone of uncertainty!! The only nice thing here are Steelers Bars and Primantis down in Ft. Lauderdale (30 minutes away). Can you travel to 7 Springs next winter and post some of those photos? Just an idea!! Just like Chuck said “Thanks for brining home to me!”
    Thanks again

I visit this site frequently and would like to know if your photos are for purchase. i know many people who would love these as gifts, and you truly have a gift for exposing Pittsburgh’s dramatic beauty. I am moving home soon and whenever I am homesick I check this site. It’s like food for soul. Thanks! Pittsburgh’s greatest export is it’s people.

No place in the country comes close to this town with character, unique personality, and great neighborhoods like this town. You really know how to show it. Keep it up. Also, your photos of other towns are great also. Visit Denver one day, and phootgraph it. I love that town.

Moved to L.A. in ‘68. Have been back many times to visit family and friends. Now retired and living in Laguna Woods, South Orange County. I miss the smell of the rich soil made by falling leaves, the soft, moist air, the friendly voices all around you, my family.
Great pix! I could cry. I have fond memories of huge family picnics on Saint Anthony’s Day in South Park. The beautiful stone shelters, the huge swimming pool, family softball games. All the ethnic peoples enjoying their favorite foods set upon a groaning table. Grandma’s bouncing babys on their knees and the old men smoking cigars and having a beer, talking Steelers. If these pictures lack anything, it is the wonderful heart of Pittsburgh’s friendly people and their attachment to each other and the church or temple in the neighborhoods. A Pittsburgher must wonder what the immigration fuss is all about. Immigrants are what built this town, we all still speak native languages, eat ethnic foods and share our churchs and temples, but we all bleed Red, White and Blue. This is what makes America great.

I love your pics. I have them as screensaver shots on my computer at work. People (in Philly) STILL think Pittsburgh is a smokey, dirty, factory-strewn town from the pre-50s era. They are so ignorant sometimes. They are AMAZED at your shots saying things like “…its probably digitally enhanced..” or something of that tone. Yea, the ‘burgh has its problems like ANY city but it also has its charms! You seem to be able to touch that side. I know it probably wouldn’t be received well but do you think you could take a pic on a day and show the same pic from 10, 20 30 years ago?! THAT would be awesome!! Or maybe some snow shots?! Your shots are very good!

P.S. I like the Philly Skyline shots you did too!

These photos are absolutely stunning! I’m from the burgh, live in Montana and am moving to Melbourne Australia. I just realized that this city is much like Melbourne minus the hills. Great job and to some degree, makes me homesick for family and friends. Pittsburgh is a lot like Melbourne that way too - great people and friendly. Though Big Sky Country offers open skys and great outdoor adventures, it has NOTHING on the people of “the burgh”. Now, where’s the chipped ham and jumbo? LOL

  56. Shane Eckel wrote:

We must have the same eyes, because I took the same shot of the Clemente. We should go out shooting, I’ve been climbing the bridges (which might be slightly illegal) lately and making abstract images out of the shots.

Just viewed the site pictures and after leaving the area some 37 years ago, many changes have taken place. However, the basic town remains, good hard working blue collar individuals who have made this a GREAT CITY. I have desire to return but only to visit. We hit just about everyone of the places that are pictured at the Strip. DeLuca’s (where you get the best breakfast in town) is a must. Thank you to whoever took these and then put them out there for us to enjoy. Oh, and of course as stated in other comments, “GO STEELERS”..!!

Especially with the fountain at the Point, the Stadiums and the Clipper Fleet below! Where better to enjoy the scenery than Pittsburgh!

I’ve been living away from the ‘Burgh for 15 years…but it will always be home. Not only is it the first city with a front door, but one of only a few left with a heart. Never met a ‘burgher that everyone didn’t love. It’s the story we all need to tell..that Pittsburgh is not a city covered in smog and filth, an eternal cloud. It’s heart is in steel, and that blue collar is on every one of us. But the smog has cleared, and everyone can now see that it is full of color, hills to match any SF chase scene, and food to beat any New York market. I hope it stays the best kept secret, so we can continue to enjoy and claim it as the city that is still the same one we grew up in. Primanti’s for the holidays!

I come from a genuine Pittsburgh family that lived in and around Pittsburgh since the 1700’s. My anccesters found refuge at Fort Pitt during the long summers of the Indian wars. My grandparents skated on the Monogahela River in the 1890’s. My father was on Mayor Lawrence’s task force to clean up the dirty air in Pittsburgh.I beat on pots and pans to celebrate the end of the WWII at the corner of 5th and Penn. 12 members of my family have graduated from Pitt. I am 70 years old now, and although I moved away many years ago and have lived in many places..these beautiful photos made my eyes tear and I knew, once again, that I am a child of Beautiful Pittsburgh now and forever. The photos are completely evocative of my true home.

I was born on the North Side and kept moving away to other neighborhoods and even to other states and ended up back here again. If you want a good photo, come up to Troy Hill in the early morning and get a photo of the sunrise from the Vogetly cemetary. The sky is so pink its incredible. And every one to two minutes the picture changes. If you walk away from your window just for a minute and return you get a whole new view to look at. Its a wonderful way to start the day. I hope to spend the rest of my life in Pittsburgh. It’s the best place in the world to live. Your photos are inspirational. Thank you.

Have been back in Pittsburgh for 10 years after living in Michigan for 7- just couldn’t stay away! I wanted to raise my kids in a community where the neighbors cared and where strangers smile and say hello to one another. We gave up very good jobs to come home and I don’t regret it for a minute. I used to watch Mister Rogers neighborhood with my kids to get a glance of the Burgh when I was in Michigan-wish I had these pictures then! Great Pictures of the “Most Livable City” in the country ! My sister in Hawaii will love these pics- she wants to retire to Pittsburgh someday! Great shots..loved the Cathedral(we are both Pitt Grads)! Does anyone remember using Town Talk Bread wrappers to get into Pirate games for free?

Here’s what I love about EVERY response posted…..no matter how old we are, where we live now or when we left, we all share the same sense of the ‘burgh. Why can’t we find other cities just like it? We moved away and spread the spirit of the ‘burgh (and the Steelers) everywhere. Has anyone noticed you can find a Pittsburgh bar in every major city in this country? I am proud to say I’m from Western PA and will glady share this website with all my friends so they can see what I’ve been talking about all these years. PLEASE publish your photos in a book!

Those pix are spectacular and made me homesick. I grew up in Washington, PA but lived in Pittsburgh right after college. I left in 1982 and moved to New York, Boston and now New Jersey. As much as I love living here, my heart is in the ‘burgh. I love coming ‘home’ for visit. And there is an instant bond when I recognize a ‘yinzer’ accent no matter where I am in this country. There is a great Steeler bar here in Hoboken. Keep those great shots coming!!
